Pride

I am a universal fact.
Most people do not see me as a problem.
At least not concerning themselves.
But I am a problem and I cause problems.

Some people think that they are immune
Against my deceiving charm.
They think that I only exist in others
But not in them.

It’s funny that they are so blind.
They think everyone else is biased
Except them.
But they are biased and blind, too.

That’s what I do.
I let people see everybody else
And I blind them towards themselves.
I only let them see what I want them to see.

I am the pride and I am very arrogant.
As the pride I don’t really like humility.
Humility is Christ-centeredness.
Pride is Self-centeredness.

I hate the former
And I love the latter.
Self-centeredness is the height of ignorance.
That’s what pride is all about.

I love to ignore other people.
And I have to ignore Jesus Christ.
If I don’t ignore Him and His sole reign,
I might end up in humility.

I can even use truth for my purposes.
Some of them get so caught up
In their knowledge about theology
That they forget Christ.

See how smart I am? See what I did there?
I used the weapons that are intended
For making them humble
And used them against their spark of humility.

Pride makes people restless.
When they come to Christ
They find peace and rest for their soul.
That’s something I need to avoid.

A humble soul is a still soul.
They’re not humble. They’re not still.
That’s what distinguishes Him most
From them and their egos.

He wasn’t living for Himself
And His own purposes or goals.
He didn’t come to be served.
He served them although He is their master.

Isn’t it interesting that they needed God
To show them what humility is all about?
Nobody had to teach them what pride is.
They just knew and they still know.

If they were really aware of
What Christ did for them,
They would be thankful.
A thankful heart is a humble heart.

Thankfulness appreciates somebody else
And not yourself or your ego.
That really helps to become humble.
But there is also another way.

There is a painful way of learning humility.
Suffering and problems are a good teacher.
When they don’t want to be carried by grace,
They’ll carry a yoke that is too heavy for them.

If they came to Jesus Christ,
He would carry the weight of the yoke
And they would stay on the right path
Very close and directly next to Him.

But they prefer the yoke of pride and sin.
They don’t want to trust and obey.
They don’t want to worship somebody else.
Most of them choose me – the pride.
