The Day of Small Beginnings

Why would you despise the day
Of small beginnings?
Isn’t every day and every morning
A day of small beginnings?

Sometimes people wait forever
For a new beginning.
Sometimes they expect a huge turnaround
Instead of a small beginning.

They want God to enter their situation
And solve their problems miraculously.
Their expectation is an expectation
Of sudden relief and big breakthroughs.

Cannot grace be a small beginning?
Isn’t grace sufficient for a small beginning?
Why do we keep grace hidden
From the day of small beginnings?

Why do we retain grace for huge beginnings?
Why are only the big mountains big enough for grace?
Aren’t the small sorrows the ones
That keep us farthest away from God?

Isn’t the Holy Spirit holy enough for a small beginning?
Is His grace only sufficient for the big beginnings?
Can there be sufficient might and power in us
For the small beginnings?

Do we not need the Holy Spirit for our daily struggles?
Isn’t every small step towards God
A worthy small beginning?
Big steps wear and stress us out.

Isn’t every spark of holiness
A worthy beginning of a huge fire in us?
Why do we focus on the huge beginnings
When the small beginnings really make a difference?

Why do we think that a small beginning
Doesn’t really make a difference
When instead the small beginnings are
The start of something new that can grow?

Every day and every decision are a chance
For a new beginning.
Do we make room for the Holy Spirit?
Do we really rely on Him for our beginnings?

Isn’t small and constant change
What daily sanctification is all about?
Don’t wait for the day of big beginnings!
This day might never come.

The small beginnings are the ones
That God is waiting for.
He wants us to depend on Him
In every small step and every small change.

Every uncertain corner that we walk around
Is important enough for a prayer.
We might not get rid of the uncertainty
Or know what’s behind the corner.

We might not see behind the day
Of small beginnings.
But there is a way behind it.
There is progress behind every corner of change.

It’s not the day of the small beginning.
It’s the day of the small beginnings.
Grace offers us many opportunities.
Don’t despise the day of small beginnings.

Sacharja 4,6-10
