A Manger for a King

Most people think
That I was made out of wood.
But that’s rather unlikely.

At that time, we were made out of stone.
We were somewhere outside
Surrounded by animals.

During the day it was really hot.
And during the night it was very cold.
But nobody cared.

I don’t know why they would choose me
As a cradle for a king.
I’m not a place for a king to be around.

But somehow the King of kings
Came as a child
And rested in my stony bosom.

He was announced as a king
And people expected Him in a palace.
But He ended up in a dirty manger.

He wasn’t the King of the rich and the noble.
For them He was a stumbling block and a fool.
He became the King of the poor and the sick.

He destroyed the wisdom of the wise
And the discernment of the discerning.
Where is the one who is wise?

Where is the scribe?
Where is the debater of this age?
Has not He made foolish the wisdom of the world?

He is the power and the wisdom of God.
And He chose what is foolish in the world
To shame the wise.

God chose what is weak in the world
To shame the strong.
He is the only almighty and all-powerful King.

He chose what was low and despised,
Even things that are not,
To bring to nothing things that are.

He became to us wisdom from God,
Righteousness, sanctification, redemption,
So that nobody can boast in His presence.

He didn’t want a palace.
He wanted people.
So, He waited in a manger for them to worship Him.
